Socrates view of temperance was simply "self-mastery", express the rule of the better part over the worse. He thought that this would only be found in a few citizens born in the State. To posses this reat gift you must be brought up with good guidance and true opinion.

Quote: "Not so temperance, which extends to the whole, and runs through all the notes of the scale, and produces a harmony of the weaker and the stronger and the middle class, whether you suppose them to be stronger or weaker in wisdom, power, numbers, wealth, or anything else. Most truly then may we deem temperance to be the agreement of the naturally superior and inferior, as to the right to rule of either, both in States and individuals."

  Justice
Justice is what we have been trying to find the answer to along with Socrates. It just happens to be that in the Great Book Four we get this from Socrates,"Justice was doing one's own business, and not being a busybody." In the whole entire Republic this is the closest to the true definition of Justice.
Justice is the last virtue to be found that would create the perfect state. In order to come close to this he gave uus some important tips to finding out what it really was. He says that if your were to examine WEALTH and PROVERTY in the State then you would realize this is why they need to find JUSTICE. Those two mentioned before cause deterioration in the State. To get away from this you must look at the classes in the State and figure out which should rule and which should follow. Your GUARDIANS would become your rulers. The guardians were the middle class. He saw that you would find the philosophers in this class. Other classes were the masses and artisans.
I see him as trying to describe communism to make a UTOPIAN CIVILIZATION. Of course he did not know that he was doing this he thought that this would be the best thing to do. I would have agreed with him if I lived back then, because I would have no other disagreement to pull up.

The Role of Religion.
Of course religion would have some what a major effect on the four virtues, but in conclusion we felt that Socrates was pulling away from polytheism and in search for monotheism. He felt that this would lead him to justice. Why? Because the God's showed favor to someone they liked and hatred to someone they disliked. Read any of Homer's works to see that.

Connection to the United States
I don't know to much about the government we run today, other than it's a democratic republic. Though i do know that it is against communism in general. Communism is sort equalizing unequals. sort of like a math problem your equations have to be balanced. You see there is no connnection between what Socrates sees and how U.S. is ran today. Though there is one? Does America have justice if so were at in America can you find it?

This is my good friend Hal. I took this picture on his birthday. I think he likes to be in pictures.
